Terms and Conditions

These terms apply to all work carried out by Module Tech. By sending a unit to us you accept them in full.

Effective 10 August 2026 Module Tech · 262d Boundary Way · Watford · WD25 7SX

01Nature of our service

We carry out bench assessment, repair, cloning and data work on automotive electronic control units. We do not carry out vehicle-level diagnosis and, unless separately agreed in writing, we do not see, test or work on the vehicle itself.

Our assessment is limited to the unit sent to us. We can only report on what that unit shows on the bench.

02Diagnosis before sending

It is your responsibility to establish that the unit you send is the cause of the fault.

We assume that all external testing has already been carried out before the unit reaches us, including but not limited to:

  • Fuses external to the unit
  • Relays external to the unit
  • Wiring, connectors, earths and supply feeds
  • Related components and sensors

We do not test these items, we are not responsible for testing them, and we accept no liability where a fault is later found to lie in them rather than in the unit sent to us.

03Fees

£75
Test & inspection · per unit
£25
Disassembly · per unit

3.1 Test and inspection fee — £75

A test and inspection fee of £75 per unit applies to every unit received. This covers inspection, testing and reporting, and is payable regardless of the outcome, including where no fault is found and where the unit proves unrepairable.

This fee is waived where you proceed with repair, cloning or other chargeable work on that unit.

3.2 Disassembly fee — £25

Where a unit is received as part of a larger assembly and we are required to remove external fuses, relays or other components in order to access it, a £25 disassembly fee applies per unit.

This fee is separate from the test and inspection fee and is not waived if you proceed with further work.

3.3 Repair and cloning charges

Quoted individually and confirmed in writing before work begins. Quotations are valid for 30 days.

3.4 Return carriage

Charged at cost and payable in addition to all other fees.

04Payment and retention of goods

Units will not be returned until payment has been received in full.

This applies to all sums owing on that unit, including the test and inspection fee, disassembly fee, repair or cloning charges and return carriage.

Payment is due on completion of the work. Units unpaid after 90 days from the date we notify you that work is complete may be disposed of, and any sums owing remain due.

05Donor units

Where work requires a donor unit, you are responsible for sourcing and supplying it unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.

Donor units are purchased at your own risk. We are unable to verify the condition of a donor before work begins and accept no liability for donors that arrive faulty, damaged, incorrectly specified or otherwise unsuitable. Where a donor proves unusable our charges remain payable in full and a replacement donor will be required at your cost.

Donors must match the original unit exactly on part number, and where possible on build date. Manufacturers revise these units during production and a superficially similar unit of a different revision may not be compatible.

06Outcome of work

We undertake to carry out work competently and to a professional standard. We do not guarantee that any work will resolve the fault reported to us, for the reasons set out in clause 2 and because the fault may lie outside the unit sent to us.

In particular:

  • Where a unit is cloned, the procedure transfers the stored data to a replacement board. If the original data is itself corrupt, or if the fault does not lie in the failed board, cloning will not resolve the problem.
  • Where a physical processor transfer is carried out, the outcome depends on the condition of the processor, which cannot be established in advance. If the processor is itself faulty the procedure will not succeed, and the donor board is consumed.
  • Some faults cannot be identified without testing the unit installed in the vehicle with manufacturer-specific equipment.

Our charges cover the work being carried out correctly. They are not contingent on the fault being resolved.

07Data

Where we extract data from a unit we take reasonable care to verify it. We retain copies for a reasonable period as a precaution but give no guarantee of retention and you should not rely on us as your only backup.

We accept no liability for loss of stored data where the device holding it is faulty, degraded or fails during the course of otherwise competently performed work.

08Condition of units received

Please send units clean, complete and adequately packaged. We are not liable for damage in transit in either direction beyond the value of any carriage insurance actually taken out.

Where a unit arrives already damaged, previously opened, previously repaired or otherwise interfered with, we will notify you. Our charges remain payable and we accept no liability arising from the prior condition of the unit.

09Warranty seals

Units returned to you following repair or cloning carry a tamper-evident warranty sticker. This is applied so that we can establish whether a unit has been opened after leaving us.

Any warranty offered is void where the sticker has been removed, broken, defaced, obscured, replaced or otherwise tampered with, or where there is evidence that the unit has been opened, worked on or interfered with by any party other than ourselves after it left our premises.

Where a unit is returned to us under warranty with a damaged or missing seal, we reserve the right to decline the claim and to charge our standard fees for any inspection or work carried out.

Please do not remove the sticker, and please ensure that whoever installs the unit is aware of this condition.

10Coding, programming and registration

Many units are coded to a specific vehicle. Where a replacement or cloned unit requires coding, programming or the registration of keys or remote transmitters, this may need to be carried out on the vehicle with manufacturer-specific equipment which we do not provide unless expressly agreed.

It is your responsibility to establish what will be required to make the unit function on the vehicle before instructing us to proceed.

11Liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Subject to that, our total liability in respect of any unit is limited to the charges paid to us in respect of that unit. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including loss of use of a vehicle, recovery or transport costs, hire charges, loss of earnings, or the cost of work carried out by others.

12Consumers

If you are a consumer rather than a business, these terms do not affect your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or any other applicable legislation.

13General

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.

We may amend these terms from time to time. The version in force at the date we receive your unit is the version that applies.

Questions about these terms?

If anything here isn't clear, ask us before you send a unit in — we'd rather explain it up front.
